Hi , im 19 yrs old and have researched into SAD an think its something I may have .I seemed to notice it when i was 16 an started developing depression from september to march time . Since then I have noticed a repeat of feelings around this time of year for the past 3 yrs , feeling alone, sleeping alot wanting to stay indoors the list is endless. Most of the signs are there but im still not sure i feel as though im over reacting about it ...
It does sound like the timing fits very well. You could go to your doctor though and get a routine blood test if you've never had one before that can easily rule out common things like an infection/virus, anemia, diabetes etc. Depending on how open they are to the idea they could also do a vitamin/minerals test and see how your Vitamin D level is which can be at least one factor in SAD for some people (though not all I think).
Unfortunately lightboxes which seem an easy way of treatment are not available on NHS, plus are quite pricy as you may of seen in the Lumie shop. But they offer a 30-Day Trial so if you find it was not money well-spent and does nothing for you within a month you can get a full refund:
From what you describe things seem to fit SAD. I would suggest you visit your doctor and discuss this with them, they may offer medication or may just note it in your records (then next year when you go around the same time they will be able to see the pattern emerging)
Like florana says, a lightbox might bring some relief - worth a home trial at least I'd say :-)
Yes, a lightbox is definitely worth trying. I think that some are available without the VAT component of the price - although when I bought mine I was asked if I had been diagnosed with SAD.
