Was thinking a lot of us with sad with obvious reasons dread the winter but there are some nice things to look forward too. Why not share yours?

These are mine

Cosy nights in by log fire

Romantic! Can use candles more.

Christmas (not the hype with shopping) but the lights and carols and the true meaning.

Snow well its nice for a short period! makes everything look picturesque.

Going out for a walk on crisp day wrapped in hat scarf and gloves plus my wife looks cute in hers.

Having soups and stews to eat.

Winter wonderland, the outside skating.

So what are yours?

When Christmas is over, the winter solstace has been (meaning the days are getting longer! Woo Hoo!) Which means that Spring is not far away...

Oh and I do like the snow. Especially if it means having to work from home for a couple of days 'cos I can't get into the office.

Like paulst, I'm struggling with this. Indeed a couple of years ago I gave up and now head for Catalonia in Spain for Nov - March, where the winter starts end December and ends at the end of February. At two months its ok, and nothing like the UK. Only family commitments prevent my escape this year.

I am unable, with SAD, to remain in a country where the winter lasts a minimum of six months. Our early ancestors must have found this country, with its abundant rainfall, perfect for growing crops. But it must have been a miserable, wretched existence.

" The autumn always gets me badly, as it breaks into colours. I want to go south, where there is no autumn, where the cold doesn't crouch over one like a snow-leopard waiting to pounce. The heart of the North is dead, and the fingers of cold are corpse fingers."

D.H.Lawrence in a letter to J. Middleton Murry, October 3, 1924

No work over Christmas.
Walks in the countryside in December (as long as it's not raining).
Beautiful sunsets (at 3pm!).
Crisp, sunny, frosty mornings.
And snow...

Curling up in a warm bed listening to the wind howling in the trees outside.
The different birds on the feeders in the garden.
Flying to the Canaries for my restorative week in the sun in January!

A visit with someone who TRULY understands and expects nothing from you but your company. My sister popped in the other day and brought her pajamas and favorite blanket. She curled up next to me on the couch and told me funny stories all afternoon. We also made cocoa and oven s'mores for a treat. It REALLY lifted my spirits :)
