Hi all.
Just wondering how everyone manages work while feeling so rotten. I don't mind the work part at all, I'm able to focus and do what I need to, it's the social interaction part that kills me. I can't stand having to talk. My boss is a very sweet, charasmatic and bubbly person. She talks NON-STOP and expects me to hold up my end of the conversation. It usually ends with me withdrawing or bursting into tears. Does this happen to anyone else?

Hi Koko,
I know what you mean, work is really hard during the winter. I find it very hard to be motivated, getting myself out of bed and out of the front door is such a challenge, I just have to take it one day at a time. Yes, the social interaction side is the hardest for me too, it's an effort to keep conversations going, and I find eye contact so uncomfortable when I have SAD, I keep thinking I must look so awkward. I just wish we could hibernate and go back to work in the Spring!

Thanks, Bagpuss. One of the best things about this forum is that it lets you know that you are NOT alone in the way you feel. I wish we could just hibernate, too. I would love to stay in my pajamas, press up close to my sunlamp, eat lots of yummy things and only have to make eye contact with my cat :)

I feel like S.A.D totally strips away every shred of confidence I have. In the summer I can look everyone in the eye and even laugh right out loud. This really is a rotten illness!!!!

I'm with you Koko, that sounds like my ideal winter, although would replace cat with dog! ;-)
It is so reassuring to know other people feel the same. It's like being two different people isn't it? Summer you and winter you. That's how I feel.

Bagpuss, I love dogs too I just don't have one. Wish I did :) I know what you mean about feeling like being two different people. I barely recognize myself right now. Thank goodness I'm an avid journaler--I have notebooks full of memories of the good times. When I'm really feeling low and hopeless I'll dig them out and read them. It's very theraputic.

Ragman, I can sympathize. I'm able to get to work everyday and do my job but it's a struggle every single second. I'm constantly repeating in my head, "You can do this. Just keep going." It's exhausting!

Koko - me too, really would love a dog! Reading the old journals is a really good idea, I've got some old ones too, I used to write a lot. I threw away all the negative stuff and just kept a book of all the happy positive thoughts, I will dig them out!

Ragman - It helps me to keep telling myself to get through one day at a time, as I start to panic if I think about how long it is until I will start to feel better again!
