Hi All I am fairly new to the site and looking for some advice and hopefully find some friends on here feeling the same way. I have been a SAD sufferer for apx 15 years ago - my doctor tried to tell me it was post natal depression for the first 5 years and then 10 years ago it was diagnosed correctly. Last year was a bad year for me. 5 years ago I separated from my husband of 18 years but actually found it helped my SADS not having a relationship to worry about. Last year I met a new man and sadly SADS came back with a vengeance :( Thsi year it seems to have started a little early too, but I blame this on the great British weather and lack of Summer :( My poor partner doesnt know whether he is coming or going and I just feel extremely low and very paranoid all the time I have started taking Kira Good Mood tablets and keeping myself disciplined with early morning light sessions before work - its tough :( Has anyone else noticed any patterns to going from single to in a relatiionship and the earlier onset of SADS due to weather ???? Any advise would be gratefully received :) Thank you in advance .........
Hello LC, glad you've found the site. I hope it helps you. I've had earlier onset symptoms this year due to the rubbish summer 0 I started getting anxious and snappy in August rather than September / October time and I'm struggling quite a bit at the minute. So yes, I do think the weather has a lot to do with it.
Changing relationships is interesting too, 4 years ago I was in a relationship which I knew wasn't working and I had a terrible winter, 3 months off work, the full whack. It was only in the spring that I got it together to leave, and that was because I really thought I wouldn't be able to get through a second winter like that, it was very frightening. I'm lucky now, I've got a great man who is really supportive. I understand your paranoia though, coz I sometimes feel like I conned him, we started going out in the summer and I was very gregarious and bubbly and in winter I am a different person. Someone else on the forum suggested that reading Winter Blues can help explain what it's like living with someone with SAD. Maybe that's an idea you could put to him. Good luck, keep up your treatments and take care.
