I have bipolar, the last few winters were awful for me, but I got prescribed citalopram in march. Just a low dose, it really helped, until this september when my sad usually begins. My bright spark has never helped me, it's not powerful enough. I got a much more powerful one from the nhs, seems to be doing the trick. I would buy a pharos because I sometimes go to glasgow for a few weeks, but lumie don't seem to sell the big lights anymore. I wonder if there is a reason for this. I see a lot about these blue led lights but i'm not sure if they are as good as the traditional bigger, more powerful lights.

I have tried blue lights and i have tried white lights. Nothing has worked so far except for bright sunlight.

The blue lights were a disaster. I couldn't sleep at all for a couple of days after using them. The large white fluorescent light boxes only produce little more than 10,000 lux, so are utterly useless to me. I can get more than that on a cloudless day in the middle of winter. The Valkee is my last hope and i will try it soon.

I suggest you buy your blue lights and anything else you want to try. You will probably be very disappointed but you can always sell them secondhand after you're done with them.

I am also trying a blue light for the first time this winter, and finding that it helps (although I was sceptical before I tried it). My white light lives in situ by the computer, but the blue light is portable which means I can use it wherever I happen to be, and even take it away with me. The only snag I have found is that I need to recharge it quite often (once or twice a week) but would say that it is about as effective as the white light.
