I'm hoping I can get some practical advice please :)Ive been battling with depression for many years and like most find it hard at this time of year. This year I'm finding it particularly hard..I'm really struggling at the moment..I'm desperate to find something that will help me. I've been on various anti depressants over the years!! I'm now on Venlafaxine, which suits me ok. But this last week or two, I'm getting progressively worse :( I don't find it easy to share how I feel with people, but I'm even at the stage again, that it's becoming a chore just to get out of bed and do basic things ( again) ..Atm the anxiety seems to be the worst symptom, so anxious, I feel sick I can hardly eat and feel really unwell..:( but not being able to sleep and being sleepy all day is close behind. It's not helped by the fact I feel so isolated..I don't feel up to going anywhere and spend much of my days at home alone...( although I do have lovely pets) I've felt very low before, but this is a VERY bad episode and I'd really like some help ...

So I'm going to try a light box..I'd appreciate your thoughts and advice on what one to buy or try..

Many thanks

Sue

Hi Sue.
Not to make light of how you're feeling, but thank you for making me smile. I was reading your post, sympathizing with you and thinking of supportive things to say and then I got to the part where you have lovely pets. I couldn't stop laughing because I can really relate : ) During the winter I take so much solace in my cats. They're so much easier to interact with than humans. A big part of S.A.D. is social withdrawal. We shrink away from people and have difficulty making conversation, etc. But it's so easy to just pet our cats and dogs and nuzzle them and feel a little better.
I always feel less lonely with them around... I also can relate to all the symptoms you're having--anxiety, exhaustion, feeling sick and isolated. I hate going out and have to force myself to do the errands and shopping. My biggest nightmare is when someone knocks on my door unexpectedly. When my mum or friends just "pop round", I cringe. I can't possibly imagine how I'm going to get through a conversation with them and just want to curl up and be left alone. But then when I am alone, I feel lonely. It's sooooo frustrating! Sound familiar? I do have good days occasionally and even enjoy a visit sometimes, but I never know how I'm going to be feeling ahead of time. I could be fine one day and then miserable for the next three...You asked about lightboxes...I use the Sunlight Jr. from Sunbox.com. It definitely takes the edge off. I'm at least able to get out of bed in the mornings which is a huge help. It doesn't send me into instant recovery or anything but it's a life raft to get me through.

Hope this helps. Hang in there.
You're not alone.
Love, Koko

Thankyou so much Koko.. I relate to everything you say. The worst thing is, I'm actually really sociable!! But not at the moment ..I have four little feline darlings and two dogs..So whether I like it not Im forced out to walk the dogs! My husband works long hours nd often gets in late which doesn't help either. Anyway, I feel better today so I've gone ahead and ordered myself a light fom here..I've got it on express delivery so I can get started straight away. I'll let you know how I get on

Sue x
