Dizzy Spells

Can anyone tell me if they get dizzy spells with SAD?
It doesn't matter if I am lying in bed in the dark or sitting watching the telly I get a wave of dizziness rather like being tipsy without the booze, I am not taking any medication and can't put this down to any other cause. Have had blood tests all clear but I am depressed and have lots of the other symptoms of SAD.

Hi there. My mom, who is 55 started to get dizzy spells and has had all kinds of tests and they can only eliminate things. It really keeps her from doing alot of things, driving, watching tv, sleeping well. She has also been going through lots of stress the past year or so, though she never admits to depression. I had to look on the internet cause I'm so concerned, and your message seemed similar to her spells. Do you have any other info? Do you think it's depression? Please email me. thanks.

I have had dizzy spells of differing severity for the last twenty four years (I`m now 47) I have investigated various routes including doctors, homeopaths etc but have never rid myself of them. They usually last no more than 30seconds, but this week I felt dizzy for a whole evening, but felt fine the next day. It`s very distressing, but I cant say I make the association with SAD, as it`s just as likely to occur in beautifully sunny weather.

If anyone feels they have found a solution to these dizzy spells - I`d love to hear from them.

Good luck

Debbie

I am now on anti depression pills and I thought my dizzy spelly would go away but I still have them, I always get them when I am sleeping and wake up with the room spinning. I am not going to give up looking for a reason as to why I get them but I am glad I am not alone.I am now thinking maybe its from a pinched nerve.......I have to admite the pills are working for SAD

I'm on Cipralex and have been taking them for about six weeks now.I don't think I'm back to being me yet but I am on the way except for being dizzy. My doctor was hoping the pills would help but it comes and goes.

Im on Amitriptyline, they sometimes cause me to be a little lightheaded, hopefully your dizzy spells will reduce soon, if it doesnt reduce in the next few weeks, I would go back to your doctor. It took while to find the right medication for me.

Thanks Paul, thats hopeful. I do have to back soon but one of things about SAD are worring about ........everything. I am afraid to go to sleep at night because I might get a dizzy spell. I can take the lighheadedness but the full blown room spinning is another thing. Its good to know about getting the right meds thanks I will ask about that.

I know how you feel, when I first started taking the meds im on now, I caught a cold and for some reason I felt so dizzy everytime I tried to sleep. It took a week before I could sleep properly, the doc said it could have been side effects from the tablets.

I hope it is as simple as changing my meds. I had the dizzy spells before I started on Cipralex and was so happy when the the dizziness stopped but after a couple of weeks I got it back again. There has to be an easier way to find out what causes this to happen I am sure its not from the anti-depression pills.

I was checked for that as well, and that wasn't it. I hope they find the reason soon, it seems like there are a lot of us out there with this problem.

I have found a reson for my dizzy spells and it is called benigne positional vertigo, and no pills were needed to clear it up. Look it up on the web and it will give you a simple exersise to clear it up......it made me very dizzy at first but the next day it started to get better and now I only do it when I feel like its coming back....Good luck to all that trys it.

Thanks Paulst, but do go look it up. When I told my doctor what I did for it he laughed and said that is just what a specialist would do for it...and every one that has tried it has said it worked for them also. It makes a good read so look into it.

My dizziness just disapeared i had been given tablets by the doc but didnt get a chance to take them, i feel great again and can get on with my life. But this happened last time as well and came back about a month later each time getting worse its really strange. If anyone else has this happen to them i would love to hear from them especially if it goes and then comes back.
