I have finally realised that the way that I have been feeling is probably down to SAD. It is a real relief to me that I can do something about it using light!
I have just purchased the Bodyclock advanced. I have read the booklet that came with it but there are a few more things I wanted to know that I thought only people who may have used these things would know the real answers to.
Can I use the Bodyclock as a lightbox by sitting in on my desk as well as using it as an alarm clock? I can't really afford a lightbox/desklamp as well.
Is one length of wake up/sunset setting better to start with than the other? i.e is it better if it is longer or shorter. None of the things that came with it seem to explain the best way to use it.
I'd really like to find a way to start feeling better as soon as I can but I dont want to waste my time sitting in front of an alarm clock if its pointless!
Nope, sorry Cat99, a Bodyclock just goes nowhere to substituting a pukka lightbox.
A Bodyclock is a superbly wonderful wonderful device, I could not live without mine, summer and winter alike (as we have blackout blinds), but its purpose is to ease you into your day, making the beginning of said day, tolerable. And it does just what it says on the tin.
The length of the sunrise is simply a personal preference, makes no difference.
The Bodyclock is supposed to render you agreeable enough to be able to face switching on your proper Lightbox. Nothing can substitute a proper lightbox, and this lightbox has to be used on a strict daily routine, can't emphasise that enough.
It's a great forum this, and is hosted by OutsideIn who also supply lightboxes, these can even be purchased on a trial basis ... so, if it doesn't help you within 21 days you can return your lightbox. From what I have seen on the forum, most people feel an improvement/relief within 4-10 days (I was 10 of course!)
However, a lightbox 'helps' 85% of sad sufferers, and some people need light and meds. SAD just refuses to be easy I am afraid.
