Hi all

As many of the group will be aware i have used meditation as a way to combat some of the effects of SAD.

I was this week surprised to discover that when the brain produces Alpha brain waves during meditation there is a increase in Serontonin production.

Has any other saddies that mediatate heard of this effect\\\\\/

Hi,

In my desperate fights to beat SAD I have tried combining loads of things. I have tried meditation and self-hypnosis.

I found meditation can really help overcome the 'despair' factor and by counteracting depressive thoughts and sort-of resetting your brain, you can avoid the downward spirals when one upsetting symptom causes another. I still find the sun and St John's Wort the most powerful solutions though.

I find meditation and also mindfulness techniques useful in dealing with SAD symptoms, and particularly with helping me to slow down and conserve my energy at times when I feel lethargic. Old Hippy, do you think meditating with your eyes closed is to be avoided, or do you find it's OK as long as you're getting light treatment?

In any event, I find it's best to meditate when I'm feeling fairly wide awake, otherwise I just drop off to sleep and fall over!

Yep I meditate with eyes closed and have a meditation bench that is so shaped if I go to nod off I fall flat on my face so I aviod nodding off.

Overall I find it very relaxing in that all the usual symptons like depression can be controlled and of course the deeper you go you get to the stage of the little things that where bugging you don't seem so bad after looking at them in a very clear mind.

In full winter I will meditate in morning and night just after light box in morning so at least im awake and not libel to hit face on floor..

I'm trying to open that website link but it keeps saying there's an error and explorer will have to close

Can you send me the information via pm? or is it available on any other website?
Thanks,
Sally

Hello,
well my indian spirit guide (could be guru Ananda Yogi!) says I should start learning meditation (in a recent reading by a medium). I will be taking two days off a week from september (kids going to primary school and reducing my hours at work) for the first time in four years so will have the time available to do it. Who knows though I get put off easily.................

Your spirit guide will always speak the truth and guide you... :)

I personally have been better since I started meditation and have better inner peace despite major upheavels...
