Hi Folks,

I have been feeling like absolute sh*t this week. Anybody know where the nearest NHS SAD Specialist clinic is? I know they are out there somewhere. I am thinking about asking to be referred to one by my GP? I will be damned if I am going to go through the same misery I did last year.

Yours in

Hi Carlos ~
Have just been through my SAD file and found an address of an NHS Sad Clinic in one of my old SADAssociation Newsletters. It is:

Prof Ann Farmer
Bethlem Royal Hospital
Monks Orchard Road
Beckenham, Kent BR3 3BX
Tel: 020 8777 6611

I think that there are about 7 nationwide, from Aberdeen to Southampton. I believe the only way to get to a clinic is to be referred. Be insistent with your GP, don't be fobbed off as I was ~ I appreciate that with SAD it makes it extra hard to be assertive, after all, why bother, it's easier by far to lie down and take a nap. I wish I hadn't allowed myself to cave in just to have a quiet (sad) life.

All the very best, go for it Carlos. Don't forget to let us all know how you get on. Julie

The Bethlam is linked with the Maudsley in Camberwell (Denmark hill)where I received an initial consultation, the Bethlam offered to let me stay as an in patient in a room with sad lights installed in the ceiling. They offered me this option as an assessment tool. My G.P. in Edmonton referred me without any problems. Go for it.........

Dear Bright One, Julie and Siddy

Thank you so much for your posts. I have made an appointment with my GP. He is fairly sympathetic, although as I suspect is often the case I seem to know more about SAD than he does. It is incredibly helpful to know where I need to ask to be referred to.

Thank you Thank you Thank you

Carlos :)
