I dusted off my lightbox for a practice run since it's rather grey today. I spend a fixed amount of time on my PC in the daytime, so I want to use the lightbox in my home office. I have positioned it on the left side of the monitor, slightly angled towards me. It's about 2 feet away from my eyes.
The only trouble is, at 10,000 lux, the glare from the box means I can hardly read what's on the computer screen! No reflections as it's next to the screen - it's just that the contrast makes the text on screen hard to read, and I end up squinting. I switched the box to 2500 lux (it's a Sunray Max) and that seems more comfortable, but in the winter I'll probably feel the need for more light.
So, my question is, is there an optimal position for a lightbox if using it by a computer? Would it be better above, for instance?

Lorraine, I do not have a lightbox - I am investigating buying one - but my computer is in a room near south facing french windows and on a sunny day I have a similar problem. Rather than pull the blinds as the rest of my family do, I turn the brightness of the monitor down. This is not perfect but it helps!

lorraine i have the same problem, the only thing i do is position mine further away, and normally am on my pc long enough for the same effectas 45 mins nearer, the advantage of the 10,000 is that you can have it further away and use it longer. I also have mine behind my pc. hope this helps.

Hi,
I use my light box to the left of my PC at work. Its about the same distance from my eyes as my PC monitor. When I turn it on, I can't read the screen very well, but after, say, 5 minutes, I adjust and stop squinting. I usually use it for about 1/2hr to 3/4hr in the mornings, 9:00-9:30ish and 1/2hr in the early evening, say 17:30 to 18:00. I find longer exposure gives me head aches.
