Hi all

Im renting my lightbox, its made a major difference to my life in such a short time. But the time will come to either buy it or return it. I would buy it without a second thought but I wonder if anyone (other than Pete) have experience of Bluewave?

The lightbox I have has been a marvel but does cause some eyestrain and headache, I'd like to try the Bluewave but haven't seen it available for rental.

Any thoughts/ideas?

Ta xx :D

Hi, I remember someone on here said they didn't find the golite any more effective, less so because the screen is smaller. Trouble is, I can't remember who said it. It might be worth doing a search on this board.

Have you tried moving the lightbox back a bit and using it for a bit longer? I don't use mine at 50cm, it's a bit much.

Hi Craver ~ I know that Sebrown has bought one of those "blue" jobs, think that she might well have had it for over a week/ten days now. But, she was feeling simply awful just about the time it arrived and has hardly posted since she got it.

You could pm Sebrown to find out more....

I can't recall who said that they had bought one and not found it as good as the standard lightboxes we all use, but someone did ... am just tooo tired to do a search for you...!

For reference this is the post from a 'Guest' which Lorraine/Julie referred to. It is in 'Best SAD advice you will ever read!' thread.

Hi
I was just dropping by and noticed this discussion on blue light devices versus white light. I have tried both. I do not suffer from SAD but I do use a lightbox for the circadian rhythm disorder, non-24 hour sleep pattern.

I found this box to be effective, Diamond 4 from SAD Lightbox Company.
http://www.sad.uk.com/products/d104.php

But, having read about the superiority of blue light for shifting circadian rhythms, I ordered GoLite hoping I could use it for less time. (my model is slightly older than the one in the link, but it's the same technology as far as I know)
http://www.apollolight.com/golite.html

Unfortunately it is quite ineffective for me. My theory is that although this has blue light, the lit area is tiny and the light is not very intense.
The Diamond 4 screen is massive by comparison and much more light reaches my eyes.

White light may well be 10 times less effective than an equivalent amount of blue light, but the total amount of light from the Diamond 4 could well be more than 10 times what I'd get from the GoLite, because it is so much bigger, so it is not necessarily more effective. Besides, full spectrum light does contain some blue light also.

Of course that is just my experience, and I'm sure blue light does work for some people.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it ! I think you should stick with the one that currently works. I have more than one box anyway so whether you decide to get it in the future is another issue altogether :)

Thanx for all the info, and to Bright One for digging out the thread. The box doesnt have to go back for another few weeks yet so I'll see how I get on.

Cocked up this morning though, got up late, had to rush for train, no time for lightbox... feel naff. Took an early lunch and sat in the glorious sunshine we have today, found a little suntrap, almost felt like summer. 8)

xx
