Im in and out all the time and found this on the bbc web site. Its good that SAD is been publicised more and getting the word around that we are not just loonie in winter time..

Anyway anyone in London this will help if you pass this place..

It was on the news yesterday and on the radio, certainly seems to be at the fore right now, which can only be a good thing for us.

Is that right? I don't listen to the news much, though I'm on the BBC news site all the time, and I was wondering if anyone was commenting on all these grey days. It's dragged me down so much from the even keel that I was on, that my husband is yet again wondering whether we should move. It's hard for him because he's got elderly relatives here that he wants to be available for, and look after.
That was a fascinating link oldhippy, thanks. Just wish I could go there myself. Leicester's not very close to London. We could do with one of those cafes though. It would be great to go there, play with my toddler, and bask in the light.
They're saying we're going to see some sun here tomorrow. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Linda, it was my dad that was telling me, i always seem to miss things like that too! I wish I could go to that cafe, it looks great, but being in Aberdeen, theres no chance.

It is soooooooo grey and dark today, so blooming depressing.

Don't mean to be a pessimist, but is a room with 4x 10000 lux lights when you are sat a few meters from each strong enough?

I saw in a weekend newspaper a trendy bar in shoreditch or the city (well, that part of london anyway) that has lightboxes on the bar where you sit, and they do smoothies with lots of Vitamin D in. It was either in the Sunday times, or the guardian mag on saturday

i also saw this on Des and Mel they mentioned it but as im not quite sure that i have sad yet gp thinks so but not sure im in limbo land but i do know how you feel about people not being aware of the illness and thinking that its all in your head ive been through this for 13 years now as i have Lupus (SLE) which in its self is a nightmare to live with and as usual people are so niave they dont know what it is so they just look at you and say there is nothing wrong with you even though you are cracking up inside so hopefully both illnesses will get more publicity for people to understand what its really like to live with it

can someone explain Lupus for me please 8)

im starting to sturggle at the moment, having SAD at university is very difficult, as i dont have support structures like i did at home, although my mates seem to have been ok wiht me when i mentioned today that i was feeling particularly low. They all asked me if i had used my light and wether a nap might help me, they also said not to get too bothered with revision as id never take anything in in the state i was in. That made me feel good because at school people just went 'pffft' if i said i was having a hard day with SAD.

the one thing that gets me down about sad is how when ever i expalin it to people they say 'oh yeh i get really tired in the winter its horrible isnt it' they are refering to the winter blues and think that im no worse than they get. Ive taken to describing it as feeling like you havent slept for 48hrs and have the biggest hang over in the world, becaue thats what i feel like today!

the only way that i can describe Lupus(SLE) which is the one one i have is that its an autoimmune disease and like if you get a cold your body fights the bacteria causing it wereas with lupus your body fights itself causing loads of problems with joints, kidneys, liver etc at the moment i have been quite lucky if you can call it luck i have raynolds which to you would be chillblains(nightmare to walk with) R. Arthitis nearly everywere, Depression and IBS then to add to it SAD but hopefully my main features such as liver, kidneys etc are ok got to see gp on Tuesday about my kidneys. Loads of people have never heard of lupus which is really frustrating for people with it as you can for most of the time look normal and people always say you look good even when you feel crap, the problem with lupus it mimics loads of different illnesses and is really hard to dx and you can go for years before getting dx

I've explained it to a few people as having really bad PMT for 6 months at a time! Mum especially understood that explanation, the irritability, the fuzziness of mind, the food cravings, the not wanting to see anyone, the being completely unreasonable for no good reason!!
