Is anyone being effected by the awful weather here in the UK (I mean, much worse than normal!)?

I'm terrified we're not going to have a proper summer and then how on earth will i get through the winter?

I'm not someone who can afford Winter Sun holidays (and I don't like to fly for environmental reasons). I just need a good summer.

Hi
In desperation I've got my light box out and started to use it. And then sought solace in this forum.
Like you, the prospect of almost no summer followed by the full works of winter appals me.

clive

Hi paul - guess Manchester is very wet. You ok ?

This weather is driving me mad. Just been outside and felt warm sunshine on me for the first time in ages. Only got 2 real months of summer left. This winter could be a bad 'un.....

Hi Everyone

Don't know if I dare mention this but the long range forecast for Summer is this kind of wet weather. I've been thinking of switching the light box back on but am in a defiant mood thinking it is summer and I can manage, I want to be normal please. Feel tired and really fed up so maybe I'll crumble soon!

Here's hoping the forecasts are wrong.

Louise

At least tomorrow is supposed to be good.

With the exception of the mini heatwave we had here in Southampton during early/mid spring for a few weeks, when we had the only notable spell of contnuous sunshine days, I've had my Pharos Max on every morning for upto an hour before work :/

Just my luck to book a week off which now looks to be rainy/cloudy all the way through to next weekend!

OT: I'm starting to strongly consider that my Pharos Max needs a new set of six bulbs, as I've had it 18 months with about an hour's use for something like 75% of that time... I could have sworn that when it first arrived, its brightness dazzled me to the point of headaches while I adjusted to it from a Lumie Brightspark, no such issues now (light seems much yellower too).

Thanks Paul

The weather has been quite wonderful this weekend after all the rain we've had and this has helped lift my spirits a bit. I do hope it continues but forecast is not brilliant I hear. :(

Cabbaged I've got a Pharos lightbox, brought it March 06 and it still seems really bright. It may be worth speaking to Outside In about it.

I had a sunny weekend too (in the Netherlands!) and spots of sun this week, which is good enough really. As the days are longer it doesn't have to be sweltering all day, just light.

I might think of a little preparation plan for the winter so I don't feel it will swallow me up.
Have my lightbox around for quick fixes, feeling better.

Another awful day and the festival I was working at got cancelled (as the mud meant there wasn't access for emergency vehicles) so also feeling an anti-climax.

Got my lightbox on now before I have to head out in the rain again.

Hi all,

I have been caught up in the terrible weather in the UK this summer. I didn't realise what it was until I checked http://www.weblightmeter.com/ yesterday (I actually live in Cambridge, so this is a direct indication of the Lux I have been experiencing). I mean, I have been feeling terrible, I just thought that I was having a depressive bought unrelated to SAD as sometimes happens, but the weather has been almost as bad (it is dipping above 10,000 lux, but only briefly) as it is in the winter for the past few weeks and explains a LOT.

Needless to say, I started using my light box this morning, and will consider going back onto medication if it continues to get worse.

Adam.

Hi Adam

I was talking to a friend a couple of weeks ago about how depressed I am feeling and I was thinking about starting my meds again.

It has been a dreadful spring/summer up to now and I am sure it is affecting how us SAD sufferers are feeling. I think it might be a bad winter for us this year.

Thanks for posting that link, it's very informative.

Yeh, WebLightMeter is really great (I have now set it as my browser home page so that I do not forget about it).

I have put off starting up on medication again for the moment, I know it is not long till I will have to start on them again, and so if I were to take them up again now, I might as well stay on them till next spring (which would be annoying, as they have some side affects).

Do you have a lightbox, Suzie?

Yes I do Adam, I have a britespark so that I can take it to work with me. I can them spend as much time as I want on it as I am at the computer most of the day. It deffo needs some new bulbs this year though so I'll have to do that in the next week or so.

Iv'e not got the fatigue so bad at the moment, I am just so irritable one minute and totally apathetic the next. I am getting on my own nerves lol.

How you doin with you light? I have started using my bodyclock again though to get me up in the morning.

It seems like you and I have a very similar set up. I have my britespark infront of my monitor (which I use a lot), how long have you been using yours for? I have noticed a bit of a dimming with mine (to the ends), but have only been using it for a year (so it is probably nothing detrimental to it's functioning).

Yeh, it is predominantly just my mood... pretty similar, symptomatically, to what you are describing (though, I have been having depressed thought patterns too).

Things are getting better, though, with use of this light box... I think I can keep clear of Saint Johns Wort for another month or two yet.

I haven't been needing to use my bodyclock to wake me yet, the usual symptom is not getting to sleep easily and waking far too early, so I have been using eye masks to block out the sun coming up and ear plugs to remove all noise that might wake me. (It has brought my waking time up from about 5am when the birds start, and the sun begins to rise, till about 8-10am).

Hi Adam

This will be my 4th winter. They usually recommend you change the bulbs every couple of years. I didn't change mine after the second year and don't feel that I got as much benefit last winter. Deffo gonna be done this year lol. Thats how mine started, going dim around the edges (sounds abit like me really!!!).

Your sleeping patterns are the same as mine. That's how I know the SAD is coming back full swing. The first thing to happen is my sleep pattern changes (usually about Sept/beginning Oct). Can't get to sleep and waking early hours.

It sounds like you have found a solution tho' to your early moring waking.

Awesome, thank you.

Have you been receiving some better weather these past few days? It has been quite nice here in Cambridgeshire... very toasty in deed.
