Does anyone else suffer from sore, bloodshot eyes all winter?

I have absolutely no idea if this has something to do with my SAD or not, but for the winter months my eyes are always dry, sore and bloodshot. I've tried soothing eye drops etc but nothing works! In the summer they are totally fine, but in the winter I cannot use my contact lenses at all and I can hardly even bear to wear eye make-up. Its as if my eyes are just echoing the feeling that the rest of my body has; ie that they've just not had enough sleep!

Does this ever happen to anyone else?

unless it's the dry effect of central heating.

I have to take lots of eyedrops for burning eyes, but it's because of the light shining from my visor. It dries my whole face up. I'm not sure a light box would have the same effect, though I know that it, too, can dry the surrounding air out to a degree. I've heard that getting a humidifier to put nearby can help. Have you seen your doctor?

I've had conjunctivitis twice this year so went to doctors about that, and told him my eyes were always pretty sore, even without conjunctivitis, and he thought it might be because I work with computers all day - but I do that in summer too and the eyes are fine in summer!

I hadn't even thought that it might be my lightbox - perhaps I will try out a humidifier and see if that helps!

Hi wee one

Only just seen your thread. I have been having problems with my eyes for about a month now. They are sore, mostly around the inside corner, and bloodshot. Couldn't think what the matter was. Maybe it is my lightbox, as my skin has gone a bit blotchy since I've been using it. I no longer work close up with computers either.....

Hope yours feel better soon. x

I went to the optician and have a whole hour with him - i honestly thought something serious was wrong cos my eyes didnt stop tearing and were bloodshot. It must be a symtom of the lamps as loads of us seem to have it.
I used optrex drops and it went away (almost). Optician said it was viral conjuncavitus so he could give me anything for it.

I never thought my sore eyes could be related to my light box ... but now I think of it I don't seem to get it in the summer months. I too get the sore dry eyes , especially in the inside corner , it really itches sometimes. Also this year I had an explained case of eczema on my eyelids (of all places!) - never had eczema or skin problems of any sorts before - Dr couldn't explain it , maybe its the light box.
Oh well, I suppose its a small price to pay for being able to manage a bit of smile in the dark winter months!

Hi all ~ I too have small eczema patches and slightly sore eyes, and it happens every winter, but I put it down to central heating and lack of sunlight as I have always had it in winter, even before lightboxing. I also get chapped hands and lips with only the slightest of cold winter snaps.
Basically, I don't do winter at all!
