I've seen "nature's serotonin" advertised as 5HTP, but still don't quite understand what it is or what in fact it does. Someone in a previous post said that they had used 5HTP, though I don't recall them being that positive about it. To be honest, I try to stick to a seriously healthy diet, plenty of water, exercise, fresh air and my trusty lightbox. I find that taking supplements/meds just messes up my head even further, but in that department, again, we are all different.

All the best, if you do use 5HTP, do let us know how you get on. Julie

Seretonin is Neurotransmiter produced by humans in the neurons which is passed down the Axon by a electrochemical reaction :), what exactly is this natural form you guys are talking about?

Scientists believe that lowered levels of seretonin causes depression, well actually the found people that are depressed have lower levels of seretonin... It really is a dark art because scientists have tested people with SAD's seretonin levels and not all had lowered seretonin.

Its the pharmaceutical (did I spell that right?) companys that bulshit a lot that there drugs boost seretonin and pretend to understand how eveything works in the brain.. Its simply a marketing scam :)

Take care Peter

Keep away from these so called natural and medical drugs, prozac is just a less toxic less dangerous version of ecstacy.

I was the one who wasn't positive about 5HTP - it made me feel ill, tired and wired at the same time. If you give it a try, closely monitor how it makes you feel.

I took oldhippy's advice and gave flax seed a try - I used the seeds rather than the oil as I had some flax seeds around the house and a coffee grinder. 2tbsp per day sprinkled on food though I probably usually manage 1tbsp. I'm liking it so far. I have been feeling better lately though that might be also be down to the light therapy kicking in properly now, but I'd take them anyway because I think they're good for my skin which normally suffers badly in winter.

No, flax seeds don't make me feel hyper. Can you provide a link or reference to the study?
