Now there's a 'happy chair' for SAD

When Taiwanese student Chuang Meng Jung came to study in Scotland, she soon noticed how different the grey skies were compared to the sunnier climes of her home country. After researching the effects of British weather on the population, she set about designing a product that would help people beat the effects of SAD and winter blues.

The result is a winged chair that emits bright light for 30-minute periods. She hopes eventually the 'happy chair' will be a feature of surgeries and clinics with a renting scheme in place so the maximum amount of people can benefit.

The chair is on display at the Edinburgh College of Art where the designer has been studying for a postgraduate masters in product design.
