A study published in journal ‘Nature Neuroscience’ has found that the month you are born affects more than just your star sign.
Researchers think that our biological clocks may be subject to seasonal ‘imprinting’ and this could help to explain why the risk of neurological disorders - including seasonal affective disorder - is higher in people born in winter months.
They found that by exposing baby mice to artificial winter or summer light cycles resulted in a significant difference in their behaviour and the cycling of the neurons in the master biological clock in their brains. The mice raised with a winter daylight pattern showed an exaggerated response to seasonal changes in a way that was similar to how people suffering from seasonal affective disorder are affected.
