Opposition to flats fails to stop light-blocking development

Published on Tue 14 Aug 2007

A proposed property development by Cala Homes in Inverurie's North Street has been given approval, despite local opposition to the decision. The Aberdeen Evening Express recently reported on a man's concerns over plans to build the flats, which will be situated extremely close to his home. Ian Leslie, 51 voiced fears that the development would block out light to his house and worsen his SAD.

The flats will be just 12 metres from 51 year old Mr Leslie's home. He is worried that the lack of light will have a negative effect on others and himself, expecially in the dark winter months:

"From October onwards I feel as though a dark cloud is hanging over me."

Alterations had been made to the original plans after concerns were raised over the original layout about the blocking of light to surrounding areas, however alterations failed to allay Mr Leslie's (and others') concerns:

"It will block out everybody's daylight."
