Meet the Swimtastic Whittles!
Congratulations to the Whittle family who won the Family Award at the Kellogg's ASA Swimtastic ceremony. The Amateur Swimming Association is part of British Swimming and every year they celebrate and reward the unsung heroes of aquatics as voted for by people involved in sport. There are 11 categories, acknowledging people of all ages and abilities, and this year Lumie sponsored the Family Award joining the Whittles and other winners and sports stars for a glitzy awards ceremony at Edgbaston Cricket Ground.

The Family Award is presented to a family who love to swim, who participate together and have excelled in achieving their Kellogg’s ASA Awards. And Sofia and Martin and children Magdelena and Edward, certainly fit the bill. Sofia, acts as the coordinator of the Club Championship galas at Chelsea and Westminster Swim Club and has earned her J1 qualification, and is working towards her J2. Although new to the sport, nine-year-old Madalena and Edward, aged seven, both swim competitively. Madalena earned a bronze medal at the Club Championships and 13 ‘speeding tickets’ at various meets this year and Edward has achieved a 200m county qualifying time in breaststroke. Both children made a great effort for the Club’s recent Swimathon, completing 128 and 104 lengths respectively and raising over £200. Sofia and Martin, have worked tirelessly to raise the standards of the Club Championships and now coordinate all of the judges training for the Club. Sofia has also taken on leadership responsibility for the club’s Youth Games teams. The Whittle family gives 100 per cent at all club activities and all four of them are usually poolside in some capacity!
It was a star-studded evening attended by some of the top names in British ‘swimmeratti’ who ensured the night went off with a bang, including Olympic medallist, Sharron Davies, and Commonwealth champion, Robbie Renwick.
The Whittles were thrilled to receive their Family Award from the Olympic diver, Nick Robinson-Baker and they each won a Lumie Bodyclock or Brightspark to keep them energised and motivated for their winter swimming activities.
