Many studies have shown (see for instance  and ) that physical exercise, either by itself, or in combination with light therapy, can be very effective at alleviating depressive symptoms associated with Seasonal Affective Disorder. Because exercising releases feel-good hormones (like serotonin, endorphins, dopamine and ocytocin ), when possible, staying physically active plays a very important role in treating SAD.
Driven by this notion, right in the middle of January (a month so often dubbed as the gloomiest of them all!) we are excited to be launching a partnership with FirstLight, London’s cutting-edge light-technology fitness studio. FirstLight appears to have this principle in its DNA. Inspired by natural light, FirstLight offers a uniquely immersive group class experience that awakens your senses and transforms the way you feel.
FirstLight founder and celebrity personal trainer Mark Anthony came up with his unique concept one morning when on the 39th floor of a skyscraper in New York: "Witnessing the sunrise at first light is really quite special and gives you a sense of freedom. If I look back at what inspires me and what are truly the happiest moments of my life, it involves sunshine––running on the beach with my son, spending a sunny day with my family."
The Signature Cycle simulates the journey of the sun taking you from sunrise in Dubai to sunset in Ibiza, while Cycle HIIT offers a 30-min high intensity full body session. Cycling sessions are complemented by different styles of yoga, including vinyasa at sunrise, and yin at sunset.
